nyc

Four weeks ago I took a little trip up to the big city with some friends and family.  It had a blast up there, but I wanted to share my favorite places I went and places to go for beginners.  Some of these things/places will seem a little touristy, but you have to experience New York City the real way.

food.

pick a bagel

We ate here each day we were in New York.  The bagels were excellent and fresh.  Definitely try it out if you are looking for a good breakfast in the morning.

juniors

One word or two I can't even concentrate.  Cheesecake.  I had heard numerous recommendations, but I was hesitant to go because I thought it would be too touristy with it being located in Times Square  and all.  I highly recommend it and would go in a heartbeat for just a slice!

el blanco toro

delish.  I got their chicken quesadillas and I thought they were good.  As a group we also ordered some guacamole and salsa.  I have to say I'm not a huge fan of avocado and/or guacamole but it wasn't bad and the salsa was great with the fresh baked warm tortilla chips.

magnolia bakery

I stopped by Magnolia Bakery while walking around and decided to pop in.  It's a cute bakery and I would recommend it for anyone who wants a sweet treat.

starlight diner

We weren't able to see a Broadway show because not many shows are on Mondays. :(  We didn't know this so we went to Ellen's Starlight Diner and it was a show of it's own. Constant singing and what felt like mini broadway shows continued throughtout the course of our dinner.  The food, wasn't the best, but just a milkshake there would hit the spot.

places.

the met

We stopped at the Met, which was really fun.  1. it was air conditioning (and on a day where it's 100° ac is awesome!) 2. it is pay what you want, only have a dime? no problem!  P.S. The gift shop was so cool.  (pictured below) I was like a kid in a candy shop!

new york public library

Again, air conditioned and free.  The architecture was amazing.  The charm caught me at first sight especially with the park (mentioned below) right by it, so on our stroll we stopped there too.

bryant park

So cute.  I'm telling you again just how the library had charm so did this park.  The seats and people and dogs and trees were so perfect.  I absolutely loved the shade there was with all of the trees!  It was a very relaxed setting, it even had a yoga class going on!

rockefeller center

Well, there isn't much more to say about it!  Oh wait, there's also a J. Crew in there!
